Living with Wildfire

Protect your home and community

Wildfire bills will help make your home and community safe!

The Oregon Legislature is considering four bills that could effect wildfire readiness in our state.

Two of them are worthy of your support.

Two of them could put you at greater risk of loss.

Polluter pays

S.B. 1187

You make a mess - you clean it up! We all know it’s the right thing to do.

This bill applies that principle to corporations: Companies that have polluted Oregon and increased severe wildfires should pay. The proceeds will help fund firefighting, retrofit your home and help Oregon recover after fire.

funding for fire-safe homes

S.B. 1177

This bill provides funding to help you make simple changes to your home and garden that will make your home and community safer and more resilient during a wildfire.

utility wildfire liability caps

H.B. 3917

This bill limits the damages utility corporations are required to pay to homeowners for damage to their homes or for pain and suffering caused by wildfires they started.

It’s a bad bill and a giveaway to giant utility corporations who have been found grossly negligent of causing wildfires in the past.

Immunity for Power Utility Caused Wildfires

H.B. 3666

This bill directs power companies to apply for Wildfire Safety Certificates to prepare for wildfire and prevent powerline ignited wildfires.

But it comes with a big catch: immunity from lawsuits for damages if they burn Oregon up.

Do you think negligent corporations should get a free pass if they start fires that burn us up?
